“Justice should always be pursued; you may not always find it, but you must always fight for it.”
Words of inspiration from Andrew S. Targum’s father and mother, whose careers as public servants; as lawyer, and judge, respectively, instilled a sense of community and service to the needs of others in their son. From an early age, his parents impressed the importance of contributing to society, and helping those who have been victimized.
After graduating law school, Andrew S. Targum put that philosophy to work, becoming an assistant district attorney in Bronx County, New York. His experience in the criminal justice system exposed him to individuals whose lives had been profoundly altered through no fault of their own.
His desire to help victims led him to join a prominent NYC law firm, that specialized in complex medical malpractice litigation, where he honed his skills as an advocate for individuals who had been the victims of negligence and preventable medical errors. He successfully litigated a difficult case, with only a hospital identification band, and bills as evidence, in the wrongful death of the mother of two. The victim had sought treatment at a local emergency room, who failed to properly and timely diagnose and treat a potentially fatal medical condition. The jury awarded her family over $4,000,000.00, which was upheld by the Court of Appeals.
In 2002, Andrew S. Targum opened his own legal practice, specializing in medical malpractice, and representing individuals who had sustained preventable and serious injuries, and families, who had endured the death of a loved one, at the hands of medical professionals. In 2005, he partnered with Gerard A. Britton, Esq. The new firm in addition to medical malractice, also has expertise in other areas including Estates, and personal injury involving automobile, premises liability and construction accidents. All cases are unique, however, each matter is handled with dignity, respect and a particular attention to details, because to the staff, it’s not business, it’s personal.
His firm has accepted difficult, intricate and complex cases, rejected by other law firms, and have been instrumental in achieving successful results for their clients. Andrew personally enjoys and relishes taking some the most compelling cases to a successful conclusion. The victims, and their families, are of the utmost importance to him; he is dedicated to the notion that, if you believe in your client, no one can beat you. To date, the firm has obtained successful verdicts and/or settlements for their clients.
Andrew S. Targum graduated from Bronx Science in 1983; graduated Queens College in 1987, and obtained his J.D. Degree at Brooklyn Law School in 1990. He is a former assistant district attorney in the Bronx, founding member and former director of the NYS Academy of Trial Lawyers, and a member of the NYS Trial Lawyers Association. He has been appointed and serves on the Appellate Division, Committee on Character & Fitness, for the Second Judicial Department, and a Special Master in the Appellate Division, Second Judicial Department. He also serves as a Governor in the Jewish Lawyers Guild of N.Y. Andrew S. Targum is licensed in the states of New York and New Jersey.
